VA Connecticut is seeking a full-time Physician forthe Primary Care departmentat Newington campus of VA Connecticut Healthcare System. Duties include but are not limited to:
*Manages the full spectrum of primary care issues, including consultation of patients with internal medicine complaints, diseases and injuries.
*Orders appropriate lab work, orders appropriate diagnostic tests, requests consultations to specialty services, provides appropriate follow-up care, and triage of patients with non-medicine complaints, diseases, and injuries to appropriate disciplines for diagnosis and treatment.
*Works in a team setting with other Physicians, Nurse Practitioners, Registered Nurses and support staff assigned to perform duties to accomplish the treatment of our patients.
*Computer skills are essential as the VA system of care is fully computerized. Physicians are required toenterinformationincluding note documentation, orders and requesting consults.
*Functions are Clinical in Primary Care approximately 100% of the time.
Work Schedule: Monday- Friday, 8am-4:30pm with occasional Saturdays
*Citizenship of the United States.
*Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
*Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
*Physicians must have completed residency training or its equivalent in Internal Medicine (IM)or family practice, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
*Proficiency in spoken and written English.

*A broad fund of knowledge in both women's and men's healthcare, as well as geriatric care and the management of multi-morbid patients
*Board certified in internal medicine or family practice
*Experience in Primary Care, Ambulatory Care and Preventive Medicine

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Physical Requirements: Physicians should be physically and mentally capable to perform the duties of the position. The position will require walking, standing or sitting for periods up to 8 hours.
